“I know what it’s like to have a bad experience at the dentist. My goal is to create an environment where my patients feel invited, heard, validated, and genuinely cared for. That’s what I want in a dentist so that’s what I want to be for my patients.”
At a young age, Dr. James Grundy had a traumatic dental experience that changed his life. He needed multiple baby teeth removed and his dentist proceeded with the extractions before ensuring Dr. Grundy was fully numb. In pain and traumatized, he was nervous when he later needed braces. His orthodontist noticed his anxiety and Dr. Grundy shared his past negative dental experience. He was listened to and shown compassion as his orthodontist explained every step and made sure he was comfortable along the way. Changing his view of dental care, his orthodontist inspired him to pursue dentistry. He chose general dentistry, the field that traumatized him, to change the way people experience going to the dentist.
He graduated from University of Colorado Boulder with a bachelor’s degree in ecology and evolutionary biology. Pursuing dentistry, he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Utah School of Dentistry. During dental school, he joined the US Army and served as the Director of the US Army Fort Bliss Red Cross and Tobacco Cessation programs during his four years of active duty. While serving his country, he completed his Advanced Education in General Dentistry focusing on prosthetics, periodontal surgery, implants, TMD treatment, and sleep dentistry.
Dr. Grundy creates a welcoming and compassionate environment at Grundy Dental Studio to ease any fear and anxiety his patients may feel. Genuine empathy guides his care as he’s committed to building relationships based on trust and honesty. While tuning in to exactly what his patients need, he delivers top tier care with advanced techniques and leading-edge technology. He continually perfects his skill and invests in technology to give his patients the most comfortable, precise, and effective solutions.
Born and raised in South Africa, Dr. Grundy moved to Colorado Springs at age 12. He lived in other states throughout the years but has found his real home in Boise. Although his family is spread around the U.S., he cherishes the time they get to spend together. He has a dog, Charlie, and cat, Eddie who love when he comes home. He enjoys traveling and learning about new cultures. You might also find him golfing, water skiing, rafting, hiking, snow skiing, or snowboarding.

Deborah (left) brings 35 years of experience in dentistry and a heartfelt passion for patient care. While she enjoys the hands-on aspects of assisting, what she values most are the personal connections she forms with patients. Many of those relationships have grown from a simple appointment into meaningful friendships. She has laughed with, cried with, and prayed with countless individuals over the years and considers those memories life’s greatest treasures.
Deborah began her dental career in Washington State before moving to Idaho in 1995, following her husband’s retirement from the Navy and transition to a role at Micron. Idaho quickly became home, although you’re more likely to spot her once winter arrives (she prefers cooler seasons). Outside the office, she loves working in the yard, tackling DIY projects, and spending weekends in Oregon with her children and grandchildren. At Grundy Dental Studio, Deborah is more than an assistant. She’s a comforting presence, a listening ear, and a true advocate for her patients.
Patty (right) brings a gentle presence and a genuine love for patient care to her role as a dental assistant. She finds joy in helping others feel comfortable during their visits and believes that the little moments - sharing a smile, easing a worry, lending a listening ear - make all the difference.
With years of experience in dentistry, Patty values the relationships she’s built with patients over time. To her, it's not just about clinical care. It's about connection, compassion, and creating an environment where people feel seen and cared for. Outside of the office, Patty enjoys gardening, spending time with her mother, and hanging out with her nephew, who always keeps her laughing. Whether she’s tending to flowers or enjoying quiet family time, she brings the same warmth and attentiveness to every part of her life."
