Enjoy Stress-Free Visits With Sedation Dentistry

See How You Can Relax During Any Dental Procedure

Dental anxiety and phobia are both extremely common. Up to 36% of all Americans suffer from some level of dental anxiety. If you’re nervous about seeing the dentist, even a simple cleaning or a filling can lead to lots of stress and anxiety.

Not only that, but people with dental anxiety may skip checkups and other essential dental visits, which may lead to oral health issues in the future. At Grundy Dental Studio, Dr. James Grundy is here to help with dental sedation in Boise, ID. At our office, we offer multiple sedation options to keep you feeling safe and comfortable.

What Are The Benefits Of Sedation Dentistry?

  • Deal with dental anxiety and fear – Dental sedation can help you fight back against feelings of fear, anxiety, and intimidation when visiting the dentist. Along with our friendly, judgment-free attitude at Grundy Dental Studio, sedation gives you the confidence you need to get dental care with less stress.
  • Enhance your overall comfort Along with local numbing, sedation helps eliminate pain and discomfort during your visit. You’ll also feel more relaxed and comfortable overall, especially during long or complex treatments at our office.
  • Helps with fear of needles – Fear of needles is even more common than dental anxiety, and it can be problematic if you need your mouth numbed before a treatment like a filling or crown. Don’t worry. Sedation helps with the fear of needles, too!
  • Works to reduce gag reflex – Along with reducing anxiety, dental sedation also helps if you have a strong or overactive gag reflex. This makes it a lot easier to get dental care, especially if you need to get some work done on your rear teeth.

Understanding Your Sedation Options At Grundy Dental Studio

At our office, we offer both nitrous oxide (laughing gas) sedation and pill-based oral conscious sedation. Not sure what to choose? You can learn more about both types of sedation below, or by asking Dr. Grundy about your sedation options during your next visit to Grundy Dental Studio.

Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) sedation

Laughing gas is a great choice if you just need a little help getting through your dental visit. In this treatment, Dr. Grundy will place a comfortable mask over your nose. You’ll breathe in a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen. This mixture will take effect almost immediately.

You’ll feel relaxed, “floaty,” and a little bit disconnected from what’s happening around you. However, you will remain fully conscious, aware, and able to answer questions and respond to commands.

Nitrous oxide also wears off after about five minutes once your treatment ends. This means you can drive home or even go back to work or school after your appointment at Grundy Dental Studio.

Oral conscious sedation

If you’d like a deeper level of relaxation at Grundy Dental Studio, we also offer oral conscious sedation. In this sedation method, you’ll take a few sedation pills a couple of hours before your visit.

Once they take effect, you will feel very groggy, tired, and confused. You may even fall asleep during your visit, or forget most of what happens during your procedure at Grundy Dental Studio. This makes oral conscious sedation an excellent option for anxious patients and for more complex, time-consuming dental procedures.

The main drawback of oral conscious sedation is that it takes several hours to fully wear off. You cannot drive yourself home after your visit. This means you will need to bring a  responsible adult with you to Grundy Dental Studio to take you home and keep an eye on you until the sedative wears off completely.
