Invisalign Offers Straighter Smiles Without Braces

Explore The Clear Alternative To Traditional Orthodontics

A straighter smile does more than just make you look and feel more confident. Straightening your teeth can reduce your risk of cavities and gum disease, prevent premature tooth wear, and even lower your likelihood of developing conditions like TMJ/TMD (temporomandibular joint disorder).

But what are your options if you’d like a straighter smile without braces? At Grundy Dental Studio, we offer Invisalign in Boise, ID as an alternative to traditional orthodontic treatment. Dr. James Grundy can help you straighten your teeth and enhance your smile without braces.

What Is Invisalign, And How Does It Work?

Invisalign works by gently moving your teeth toward healthier positions using a series of thin, transparent plastic “aligners” or “trays.” These look similar to a night guard or a retainer. Each set of aligners is carefully designed by Dr. Grundy and Invisalign to shift your teeth by about 0.1 to 0.2mm over a period of 1-2 weeks.

Then, you’ll switch to a new set of aligners and this process will repeat. Over time, Invisalign can be used to straighten crooked teeth, adjust the position of crowded teeth, fix gaps in your smile, and even to correct overbites, underbites, and other bite issues.

However, it’s important to note that while Invisalign is very versatile, it’s not always appropriate for every patient. In some cases, Dr. Grundy may recommend treatment with traditional braces if you have severe or complex orthodontic needs.

The Benefits Of Invisalign Treatment

Won’t affect your appearance during treatment

The biggest benefit of Invisalign is that it’s nearly invisible. Dr. Grundy will design your aligners to fit perfectly over your teeth, and since they're made of thin, transparent plastic, they will be nearly unnoticeable. This means you can straighten your smile without the obvious appearance of braces.

Enhanced comfort compared to braces

Unlike braces, Invisalign has no sharp metal components that can poke or irritate your lips, gums, cheeks, or other parts of your mouth. They also tend to move your teeth a little bit more gradually, which leads to less discomfort throughout the treatment process.

No need to change your diet

With Invisalign, you can take your trays out to eat and drink. This means that there’s no need to avoid foods that would be a no-go with braces, like popcorn, chips, crusty bread, gummy candies, taffy, and other delicious treats. You can eat whatever you want with Invisalign.

It’s easy to brush and floss, too

Since Invisalign trays are removable, it’s a lot easier to keep your teeth clean throughout your orthodontic treatment. There’s no need to brush around brackets, wires, or rubber bands. This means you can keep your teeth bright and your smile healthy.

What To Expect From The Invisalign Process

  • Invisalign consultation – First, you’ll come to Grundy Dental Studio for a consultation with Dr. James Grundy. He will take X-rays of your smile and perform an orthodontic exam to determine if you’re a good candidate for Invisalign.
  • Developing your treatment plan – Once he approves you for treatment, Dr. Grundy will take a 3D scan of your teeth with our Trios 5 Scanner. Then, he will create your Invisalign treatment plan and send it to the Invisalign lab. It will usually take 2-4 weeks for Invisalign to send your first sets of aligners back to Grundy Dental Studio.
  • Picking up your aligners – Once your aligners arrive at our office, you’ll come in for a visit with Dr. Grundy. He’ll give you instructions on how to wear your aligners and how to care for your teeth. You will need to wear your aligners for at least 20-22 hours per day for the best results.
  • Aligner wear and checkups – About every two weeks, you’ll switch to a new set of Invisalign trays. You also will need to come in and visit Dr. Grundy for a checkup about every 6-8 weeks. During each visit, Dr. Grundy will make sure your treatment is on track, make any necessary modifications or adjustments, and give you a few more sets of aligners to wear.
  • Final visits and retainer – Once your teeth are perfectly straight, you’ll come in for one last visit. Dr. Grundy will make a set of retainers that will keep your teeth from shifting back to their original positions. You’ll need to make sure you wear them according to his instructions to maintain your new smile.
